Greenhouse Gas Footprints (GHGFP): Emissions embodied in bilateral trade
International trade can lead to a redistribution of GHG emissions between producer and consumer countries. For example, an economy can externalize its emissions by importing goods produced in countries with lower environmental standards. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions embodied in international trade are those generated during the production, transportation, and delivery of internationally traded goods and services (i.e. the lifecycle of products). These estimates can be significant as they reflect the full carbon footprint of traded products. They can provide useful orientations for effective climate policy and environmental regulations.

• Contact: icio-tiva.contact@oecd.org mentioning GHG Footprint in the title of your message • Friendly-url: https://data-explorer.oecd.org/?tm=DF_ICIO_GHG_TRADE_2023

Related datasets

• GHG emissions Principal footprint indicators
• Origin of GHG emissions embodied in final demand
• GHG emissions embodied in final demand expenditures
• GHG emissions embodied in production by scope
