Air Emissions Accounts
This dataset describes the emissions to the atmosphere released as a result of production, consumption, and accumulation processes. The productive activities are broken down by economic activity and the household consumption activities are broken down by purpose (transport, heating, and other activities). Air emissions include emissions of individual greenhouse gases (GHG) as well as air pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. The emissions are also aggregated (using equivalence factors) to report on environmental pressures: global warming potential, acidifying gases and ozone precursors.

The data are compiled in line with the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) framework. The air emissions are attributed to a national economy based on the residence of the economic entities involved. The database also provides bridging items to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) national emissions inventories based on the territory principle.

Data reported by the relevant national statistical authorities are available on an annual basis. The OECD provides annual estimates based on national GHG inventories when necessary and quarterly estimates for the OECD as a whole for total GHGs.

A description of the methodology to estimate quarterly emission accounts can be found in the Methods Note: Producing OECD Quarterly Air Emission Accounts. Updates to the quarterly Air Emissions Accounts are temporarily paused.
