Passenger cars by Euro emission standard
<p><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">Stock of vehicles on 31 December of the reference year, broken down by Euro emission standard. Since 1992, new road vehicles sold in the European Union and European Economic Area member states have to comply with pollution standards, updated approximately every 5 years. Euro emission standards (Euro 1-7) have been introduced to control the level of harmful emissions, mainly nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and particulate matter. No category is defined for vehicles in circulation before 1992. From 2026, zero-emission vehicles are included in the Euro 7 category.
